Sister Karen Kuta, OSF, lives in San Diego Mission in Jémez Pueblo, NM. Her first 25 years there she taught in San Diego Mission Catholic School, which the Order sponsored and operated. Since 1998 she has served in pastoral ministry to the sick and elderly residents of Jémez Pueblo and five nearby pueblos and villages. Sister Lizabeth Rutherford, OSF, ministers as the on-site manager of a condominium in Los Alamos, where she is care-giver for her elderly mother. We ministered for over 100 years as teachers in the Native Americans and Hispanics Missions. We founded the College of St. Joseph on the Rio Grande, which became the University of Albuquerque. We founded and operated St. Anthony Orphanage in Albuquerque. Also in Albuquerque, we served the elderly through St. Francis Gardens and we developed and ministered in parish and city programs for the elderly. Following the examples of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi, we strive to live in a contemplative relationship with God and all of creation through our prayer life, especially perpetual adoration. Empowered by our relationship with Jesus and the love we share in community, we stand in solidarity with and empower those who are in any way poor or powerless, especially women and children, by addressing unmet needs of our times with generous love, justice, mercy and compassion.
